The Museum of Tahoe was founded on a simple belief: museums should never stop evolving.

Lake Tahoe is home to several museums and historical organizations dedicated to preserving the region's rich past. The Museum of Tahoe was created to complement those efforts by exploring Tahoe through a curious and ever-evolving lens. Because museums help shape how people understand a place, we believe they have both an opportunity and a responsibility to continue to ask new questions, embrace new knowledge, and collaborate with the communities they serve. At the Museum of Tahoe, we focus on contemporary art, current science, living cultures, and the people helping shape Tahoe's future.

Rather than investing in a large permanent building, we're investing in exhibits and ideas. Our virtual platform, pop-up experiences, and Mobile Mini Museum allow us to continually develop new exhibitions, experiment with innovative ways of sharing stories, and bring the museum directly into the community. By keeping overhead low, we can devote more of our resources to creating exhibits, supporting collaborations, and exploring stories that might otherwise go untold.
